For Sale: 1974 Rickman-Montesa 250 VR

1974 Rickman-Montesa 250 VR:

I inherited this bike from my father, who passed away last summer. The following is what I know about it, which unfortunately isn’t as much as I’d like. The bike is in central Wyoming. I need to sell it and a bunch of other cars and Honda scooters so I can sell the property where it’s located. I’m in Idaho and will have to meet any potential buyer in Wyoming. I plan to be there at the end of June. Exact dates TBD.

The bike is restored but not fully operational. I’ve seen it run, briefly, probably five to eight years ago. But I’ve never seen it ridden. That is as much as I know about its operability. The engine currently turns over, but I haven’t tried to start it. It’s probably best to consider this a restored display bike for now. I do believe everything is there to make it rideable, but I can’t promise that.

This bike bears a 248cc casting mark on its cylinder head.

This bike has unique identifiers that show it to be the 250 VR version. They are:
Nickel-plated frame in very good condition.
Left-side gear shift.
Waffle fins on the cylinder head.
Low-mount exhaust
Black side cover on the engine/gearbox.

Evidence of modification:
The engine case uses a screw mount to fasten the exhaust to the head. There’s conflicting information on this, but some sources say that VR models used springs to do that job. I’ve seen other VR versions with screw mounts, however.

I need to move this bike, and I’d prefer that it go to someone who knows more about it than I do. I don’t need to squeeze every last penny out of the sale — a smooth transaction with a buyer who respects the bike and situation is more important than top dollar. Contact me to discuess details and price.
